Introduction:
More than two million people were
displaced by the fighting between government
forces and Taliban militants in northwestern
Pakistan. These peoples stayed in the safer
district of NWFP in camps, government
buildings, host communities and rented
houses. The government meanwhile succeeded
to establish the writ of the government and
by the end of July the IDPs started
repatriating to their home districts.
These people faced score of issues while
living as internally displaced people. With
the help of Government of Pakistan, foreign
assistance and the people of Pakistan most
of their issues were substantially
addressed.
When they returned to their
homes, they found plenty of problems waiting
for them. The problems are altogether of
different nature they experienced previously
as IDPs. These real issues need concrete
solutions and obviously assistance from
local and international forums. These
include:
1) Enhanced peace and security
2) Rehabilitation of livelihoods and
infrastructure
3) Rehab of education and
health sector
4) Empowerment of under
privileged communities especially women
folk
5) Community mobilization to achieve
empowered sustainable development
